A quiet day in – Ezcaray

We enjoyed our last day in Ezcaray just wandering around. It is a very small picturesque village that is very walkable. Unfortunately, lots of rain but it stopped long enough for us to walk around and grab a wine and tapas.

It was also laundry day so after washing our clothes we drove 10 minutes to the town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, to use a lavanderia to dry our clothes. This small town is one of the most significant stops on the Camino de Santiago. Its name refers to its founder, Dominic de la Calzada, who built a bridge, hospital, and hotel here for pilgrims on the French Way the most popular path of the Way of St. James in the 1100’s. There was of course a very large cathedral.

    • Boquerones en Vinagre (anchovies in vinegar) – one of our favourite things to eat. The italians call them white anchovies I think. We love them. Hope all is well with you
