When we arrived at our apartment our wonderful host Max told us there would be a wedding in the neighbourhood and for us to be aware that they often go for 5 days and that there would be music and noise. We said no worries.

Two days later the music started every evening until 1am. The house was directly opposite our bedroom and balcony. Thankfully we both slept well but after 6 days we were happy for it to end. Max sent us a message to say the bride would be leaving that morning.

We do not understand what happens or in what order they happen at a wedding in Albania but it was wonderful to watch them celebrate. There was lots of dancing, singing, traditional music and tears as the bride was escorted by her 2 brothers out of the house to meet the groom.

Max and his family (who live in an apartment upstairs) were very apologetic about the music (it was REALLY loud) and we assured him that at least they stopped at midnight – 1am in Spain that would be 3am or 4am.

Anyway, it was a wonderful joyful tradition to experience.
