Our first week exploring Sarajevo

We’ve been really looking forward to arriving in Sarajevo. We explored the immediate neighbourhood where we were staying. It’s just across the river from the city and about a 15-20 minute walk into the old town Baščaršija.

For the first week, we have been wandering around, getting to know where everything is, and so far, we have loved everything we have seen. It’s a beautiful city that reminds us of Melbourne. We have also done a food tour in the first few days.

Part of the University – School of Fine Arts
Latin Bridge – The northern end of this Ottoman-era bridge
was the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
of Austria which began the July Crisis that ultimately
led to the outbreak of World War I.
From this place on 28 June 1914,
Gavrilo Princip assassinated the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sofia.
It’s pomegranate season & lots of kiosks are
selling freshly juiced pomegranates.
We will be back to buy a bottle next time we walk into the old town.
