Amazing food in Sarajevo (and B&H)

Whenever we eat out I forget to take photos and so just a small snapshot of some of the amazing food we have had while here.

The “fast food” of Bosnia

Ćevapi – a grilled dish of minced meat sausage is considered a national dish of Bosnia and Herzegovina. (It’s been added to the list of intangible heritage, with a nomination for inclusion on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage) Ćevabdžinica are bbq restaurants where you can eat Ćevapi and other grilled meat. Always served with somun bread, diced raw onion and kajmak. Ćevapi can of course be found throughout the Balkans but the ones we ate here were delicious.

Pie or pita – found in every pekara (bakery) & again throughout the Balkans. The meat ones are called burek. Cheap and delicous fast food.

Other Bosnian food we tried plus of course the wonderful grilled meat from the woodfire or spit that we tried throughout Bosnia.

Klepe are traditional Bosnian dumplings that are a mix of Turkish manti & Italian ravioli. Filled with meat served with cream plus amazing salads.
Goulash, grilled vegetable salad and homemade bread.
In Mostar we tried the Karađorđeva šnicla (origin Serbia) a rolled schnitzel stuffed with cheese & ham. Yum.
