Semana santa

Throughout Spain, Easter is celebrated for 1 week and is known as Semana Santa the literal translation is Week Saints (Saints Week). It is the most important and celebrated religious time of the year. There are many cities, like Malaga and Sevilla, where this celebration is a huge event and they are well known for their processions and they attract lots of tourists.

We happened to be in Lleida and on the evening of Good Friday we went into the city to witness the ’processo del Sant Enterrament.’

The procession starts with Roman soldiers.

And then each paso (what we would call floats) represents the story of the Passion of the Christ.

It was a special evening and amazing to watch.
Forgive the quality of the video – in some of them I am standing behind the crowds holding up my shaky arm hoping to get some shots. (sound on)

And at the end of the evening we finished off the night at what we thought of as a fast food joint but the food was great.
Large tostadas with yummy toppings.
