On the streets of Zaragoza

While we were staying in Lleida with family and waiting for our car to be ready, we decided to take a short trip to Zaragoza (Aragon) since it was a city we had considered as a base to live once we leave Galicia..

It is a beautiful city that is often overlooked by tourists and expats and that is one of the reasons we considered it. It is a wonderful walkable city that felt very Spanish and we loved it. However it is a large city (674,00 pop) and it has extreme weather temps in both summer and winter and both of these were issues that ultimately made us decide it was not the place for us.

But we had a lovely 3 days wandering around the streets and taking in the sights.

It is a city that has 2 cathedrals. The Baroque Basilica del Pilar was truly outstanding. We found the interior to be one of the best we have seen in Spain but unfortunately no photos are allowed.

And of course we had to check out the The Cathedral of the Savior (Spanish: Catedral del Salvador) or La Seo de Zaragoza which was declared a World Heritage site as one of the most representative Mudéjar architecture of Aragón. It was built on the site of the great mosque aljama of Saraqusta.

We didn’t get to the Aljafería, an 11th-century Moorish palace, but hope to next time.

Overall our visit to Zaragoza was great and we would highly recommend it as a city to visit.
