Villaviciosa – Cider central

On our last day in Villaviciosa, we did a cider tour at Llagar Castañón.

Asturias has a long history of producing “sidra natural”, and almost any village or town you visit will have a host of sideria’s – bars and restaurants serving sidre.

The tour was great and Paula our guide spoke great English and was happy to explain everything in English as well as Spanish.

Paula our guide, pouring the side to carbonate. Only a small amount is poured and then drink, and repeat.
Showing us how they climb into the wooden casks to clean them. This is Paula getting back out.

Great to have a taste and learn more about it. We like the natural sidre which relies on being poured from a height to carbonate the sidre, but we prefer the more traditional cider that we know, which is bottled carbonated.

We packed up early the next day to drive to the Bilbao to pick up the Jordan/Lyons Family. Excited to see everyone.
