What a wonderful way to discover restaurants and bars. Every year in Castellon de la Plana the Rutas de tapas gastronomia is held for just over 3 weeks. Local restaurants participate by offering a choice of 2 tapas and a drink for €4,50. Then everyone votes for their favourite tapas. For us, it was more about discovering and trying a restaurant without having a full meal. Also exploring more barrios of the city that we had not wandered into yet.

What a great idea!

We visited quite a few, ate some delicious tapas and now have some more restaurants that we would be happy to try. Our favourite was a modern Peruvian restaurant, La Galerie GastroPub, although they offer a mix of other cuisines. It seems that gastropub is the word used for any sort of fusion or modern restaurant that offers a variety of international cuisines – something different from the typical Spanish fare.

Unfortunately, we always ate everything before I would remember to take a photo so here a just a few of those we tried.
